Un tranquillo week end da paura per davvero - Bastard

Questo week end è stato veramente da paura!

Inizio col meteo: si parlava di pioggia per tutto il week end e invece c’è stato il sole… my god rides a skateboard.

I concerti: venerdì sera hanno suonato i Punkreas, che onestamente era da un bel pò che non vedevo. Concerto bellissimo e suggestivo tremila persone presenti a cantare sulle note de “Il vicino” sotto una pioggerella piacevole… I Punkreas al loro ventesimo anno di attività sembrano ancora dei ragazzini. Sempre una grande energia.

Il sabato è stata la volta dei Ministri, che non avevo mai visto dal vivo ed è stata una piacevole sorpresa… Sto gruppo spacca!

Skate: sabato c’è stata la gara per i non sponsorizzati che ha visto la vittoria di Fabietto local del lambro in forte ascesa. Dopo la gara, demo Quiksilver che di Quiksilver aveva poco visto che c’era solo Daniel Cardone a rappresentare. Supportato dallo Andrea Sudati aka lo Stanco, Amen e Jimmy han fatto una demo paura, con finale in double di Daniel in bs disaster e lo stanco in hand plant sopra il nose… pubblico in delirio lo Stanco pure.

La domenica sotto un sole irreale, pioveva ovunque tranne che a Usmate, si è svolta una delle migliori gare di mini che abbia visto negli ultimi tempi.
Livello altissimo, skaters e pubblico che spaccavano e si divertivano, e si è andati avanti fino alle otto quando Daniel ha vinto la gara laureandosi campione italiano di minirampa, per completare il week end ha vinto pure il Chicken for rock n roll; competizione che consisteva nel colpire con la tavola il polletto impiccato sopra l’estensione (e vincere quindi la chitarra in palio).
Ci ha messo un pomeriggio per salire cosi in alto ma ce l’ha fatta creando il pandemonio a Usmate.

Ultimo atto della giornata il best trick sul frigorifero, preso d’assalto da tutti quanti, lo Zingaro bs 5-0, Pietro della Pierre fs nose pick, Jimmy feeble to fakie, Simone Verona Hurricane fino a quando Martino Cattaneo ha fatto fs disaster e si è portato a casa l’assegnone.

Bello, è stato proprio quello che tutti volevamo, un bel week end tra amici birra musica e skate, facendo gli auguri di buon compleanno a Daniel Cardone e a Max Bonassi.

Bravi agli organizzatori che hanno dato vita ad uno degli eventi migliori dell’anno.
Chissà cosa riusciranno a fare per il prossimo…

Bauli strikes again - Bastard

Marco Lambertucci, a.k.a. the Bauli, dopo una primavera passata a lavorare duramente per impegni “extraskate”, si è preso la sua rivincita estiva girando un bel po’ e spaccando come è solito fare! Una settimana di skate tra Belgio e Olanda con Nikolai Danov e Davy Van Laere, un Grill’em All in Val Senales e per concludere una bella mission fotografica con me nei suoi luoghi natii, ovvero la riviera romagnola.

Inoltre la scorsa domenica si è portato a casa il best trick alla nona edizione dello Zucka vs. tutti, col suo frontside kickflip d’autore tirato giù da una scalinata piuttosto “arrogante”! Il lazy rider se ne è tornato in quel di Riccione con un bel sorriso stampato in faccia e 250 euretti di cash prize. E bravo marco! Clicca qui per vedere il report dell’evento.

bastard Grill’Em All – Val Senales: report - Bastard

Per riprenderci ci abbiamo messo qualche giorno, ma abbiamo portato a casa la pelle anche questa volta…

Il Grill’Em All in Val Senales ha messo a dura prova i nostri fisici e soprattutto i fegati. Iniziamo il sabato mattina al ghiacciaio con le strutture del Gentlemen Rider’s Park tirate a lucido e un gap fatto su misura per la Grill’Em All session. All’interno del gap infame un misto di neve, ghiaccio, acqua, animali gonfiabili, alieni, windsurf e un’isoletta per giocare a golf!

Dopo la session sul salto grande partono i primi tentativi di superare il gap/piscina. Quasi alla chiusura degli impianti, con l’arrivo di Lukas Goller parte l’ignoranza vera e propria. Le foto qui sotti vi raccontano un pò quello che è successo. Alieni Electric che volano, Guli che fa wind surf, Lukas che gioca a golf sull’isolotto, Jimmi che fa il bagno. Aiuto! Fortuna che è iniziata tardi perchè se andava avanti ancora un pò finivamo tutti a mollo!

Dopo aver corrotto il ragazzo delle seggiovia per farcela riaprire, andiamo allo skatepark dove ci aspetta una super grigliata a base di tacchino, salsiccia e Snauzer Pipe (che in realtà si chiama Schnolser Pfeif, scusate ma non riusciamo a pronunciarlo così).

Alla sera sale il freddo e decidiamo a malincuore di mollare il laghetto e di trasferirci al Leon’s pub. Il party continua fino a notte fonda, grazie anche ai compleanni del nostro Davide e Ciccio di Neuro, come al solito la festa degenera. Praticamente è finita con tutti smutandati e mezzi nudi.

La domenica una vocina nella mia testa mi ha obbligato a starmene a letto ma pare che qualcuno sia salito in ghiacciaio.

Alla fine non ce n’è, quando si va da quelle parti la divertizione è assicurata, grazie ai Gentlemen Riders, Alex di Fakie e a tutti quelli che hanno partecipato e lottato per portarsi a casa una t-shirt limited edition Grill’Em All.

Green Tuesday: Alex Sorgente - Bastard

Un paio di martedì fa, di ritorno da Marsiglia, è passato a trovarci Alex Sorgente accompagnato da suo padre e suo zio.
Sulla strada per il contest dell’Elbo (dove peraltro ha vinto tutto), si è fermato per testare la bastard bowl. Ci ha skateato senza sosta per almeno quattro ore, fino a che si è fatto tardi e si sa che i bimbi vanno a letto a una certa ora…

Off the Wall Summer Splash contest - Bastard

Sabato 18 luglio a Cesena c’è il Summer Splash. Non è un contest vero e proprio ma più una scusa per fare un po di festa e skatearsela con gli amici senza troppe menate.

Si inizia alle 10:00 con il freeskate e si va avanti fino alle 20:30.

Durante la giornata verranno indetti dei mini contest di best trick con premi in materiale per i non sponsorizzati e in cash per gli sponsorizzati. Il montepremi globale è di € 2000.

I premi sono di Vans, bastard, DUmb, Baker, Plan B, Fvtvra, Strange e Consolidated.

É con estremo piacere che annunciamo la data del primo bastard Grill’Em All in Val Senales.

Sabato 26 luglio vi aspettiamo per un week end a base di amici, grigliate e birra (rigorosamente Forst), accompagnato da un po’ di skate e di snowboard (per chi ce la fa).

Insieme ai gentlemenriders, che organizzeranno la festa notturna Honanlulu in riva al laghetto, ci saranno tutti i Lazy Riders.
Lukas Goller, Whatza, Mattia Molnar e Tobias Sherlin apriranno le danze sullo snowpark sabato mattina, Nikolai Danov, Marco Lambertucci e Daniele Galli testeranno le strutture dello skatepark e del grill di Alex di Fakie.

Per il resto lo snowpark è in splendida forma, lo skatepark è stato pannellato di recente e la birra sarà tanta e fresca, ci si vede su!

Daniele Galli lo conosciamo tutti, vive per lo skate, e questo è il risultato del suo lavoro dello scorso anno. Although this has already been discussed on DRIVNNX.com, I feel it's appropriate to revisit this topic because of the numerous questions I've been getting. Additionally, do a search on snowboard length, size, and stance width and you'll find a multitude of snowboard length calculator's and theories on which setup is right for you. So before I begin, my little disclosure is that this is a relatively general calculation as to which board and stance to take that will be in the ballpark of a beginner to intermediate snowboarder, preference is always the outlayer to these rules.

Let' start with length first. Most people, and shops, will tell you a good rule of thumb in choosing a snowboard is to pick a board that falls roughly between your chin and your nose. Given the type of riding you expect to do should determine which length, shorter or taller, you will decide on. But wait a minute. What about the weight chart that typically comes on the back of the snowboard? Well remember, this is a guide as well as and doesn't necessarily mean you can't ride a certain board if you weigh more than the recommended range. It does however mean that the performance characteristics may be off. For example, if you weigh 170lbs and the board is rated up to 150lbs, you may feel the board flex more or feel softer when hitting park rails or if in the back country, you may feel the board sink more because the board may not be long enough.

To confuse you even further, some sites will say that if you are shorter and weigh more than the boarding rating, you should go with a longer board but if you are taller you should try to opt for a shorter board. Huh? Okay that really doesn't make much sense to me so here's the breakdown of what I've discovered after extensive research and seems to be the gauge most Pro Snowboarder's use. First take you height and convert it to inches (I'll use myself as an example). I'm 5'6" so that converts to 66 inches. Multiply your height by 2.54, then multiply that by .88, or, .89, or, .90, or .91. The range of .88 through .91 denotes 88 through 91 percent of your total height which seems to be the perfect way to calculate a range of board lengths for most people. So again, using myself as an example, I would take 66 x 2.54 x (let's use 88 percent) .88 and we get approximately 147.5. By using this calculation, I have actually chosen a 148 board that hits me right at the chin and has proven to be the right setup for me. Again, based on preference, weight, and style of riding, one could opt for an even shorter or longer board.

Add music to anything and what do you get? You get a form of audio stimulation that can pump you up for your next air or just get you into the mood to participate in any extreme type activity. With that being said, it's not unusual to see extreme sports athletes jamming to their favorite beats on their MP3 players or stadiums exciting the crowd with music.

So where does one usually go to download the newest tracks, songs from their favorite artist, or maybe some movies or vids they can watch while chillin' for a quick break? With many programs like iTunes, Limewire, or the host of other programs out there, it is hard to determine which one works the best and which one gives you the widest selection. The other important thing to consider is which program keeps your computer safe from viruses and other crap floating around on the internet.

One program I happened upon which has worked well for me is Unlimited Media Access. Although similar to the rest of the applications out there, the one thing I liked most about this site is that their media is spyware and pop-up protected. This has been great because with other applications in the past, cough cough "Limewire", my computer was hit with a ton of viruses which ultimately caused me to lose all my information.

I went out to Colorado [for work] & Wyoming [for fun] last week....

here are a few pics from traveling to/in CO.

I used to spend a lot of time running around these parts & it was cool to go back & see them again with different eyes.

I went to school in Laramie for a few years [Go Pokes!] &, um... oh, wow, visiting now is seriously like having a time machine.... i seriously couldn't find anything new or changed in the last 13 years.... i think that's good.

drive up liquor stores, the Buckhorn [one of the only places open on Labor Day], Pedal House, afternoon storms that make you pull over for a few minutes... great to see it all.

I love living by the beach, but those mountains & the endless sky... are really something.

I brought the Family out to visit my Parents in Louisville, KY last week - September is probably my favorite month, anywhere, but in KY when it's supposed to be 100 & humid & it turns out being 78 & breezy with afternoon thunderstorms - you really appreciate it.

we got up to the usual: fishing, creek exploring, bike rides, building rope swings, riding horses, catching up with old friends, mini-road trips, etc...

summer is over now, right?

It's got a pretty amazing, if repressed & baffling, history & the simplicity of their designs make you feel like life doesn't have to be so complex...

My kids saw a few goats & sheep & being Southern Californians, thought it was a zoo... we soothed their disappointment with a paddleboat ride up the Kentucky River on the Dixie Belle.

Forum Fridays comes to you as an extension of Forumâ€™s most recent team-inspired snowboarding release, FOREVER. While the footage is admirable, it was dropped on the cutting room floor, but swept back up for your visual indulgence.

John Jackson locked in two songs for his ender in FOREVER. Music rights were very expensive this year, and If his additional footage were included in the video, heâ€™d have had a three to four song part, putting the entire project over budget. Although this footage is worthy for some other riders out there, it had to be spared for John. Damn this economy.

FOREVER is Forumâ€™s sixth team-video release, and will be available September 19th on DVD along with an iTunes digital download for $6.99 on October 12th

After our first big blue break it started snowing again.

We made the most of the whiteout with some nice Tailgating...
Enjoying an Alaskan IPA and looking for blue.

After a few days of resetting the pow, the skies went blue again, opening up the peaks that surround the Tailgate Alaska basecamp.

From a little higher up, you get a nice view of the mountains across the valley. Goodwills, Little Matterhorn and the Berlin Wall are pictured here.

Across the valley from these peaks is an awesome, easy sled access zone called Skatepark.

A quick 10 minute wap from basecamp and you are on top.

Five minutes later you are riding powder like this!

Aaron Robinson explodes on Skatepark. Every turn in AK is like this and crossing tracks is only done by choice.

Rob Kingwill takes a turn on Skatepark. After hundreds of untracked pow turns, we headed back to basecamp as the sun was setting around 9PM. Literally you can ride in AK from 6:30am to 9pm.

Around 10pm the moon began its celestial sweep over the Berlin Wall.

Tailgate Alaska Kick Off - K2

It finally went blue a few days ago, sending us into the hills from dawn till dusk.
This is what it is all about. Wide open, few to no tracks and an unlimited canvas. Here Dennis Nazari takes his Powder Surfer for a spin.
Nick was tempted to mount up his 190cm Summit board for the pow. That is the original board that Steve Link made for Nick to ride in AK in the early 90s.
Sledding up here offers unbelievable access to unreal mountains. We did a bunch of laps up Nicks and were rewarded with 3 foot deep powder.
Nick takes a slash down low on his namesake. The experience puts resort riding to shame. With nearly 4000' of powder blanketed vertical, snowmobiles offer access to more terrain than any resort in North America. To really get the goods, or if you have an unlimited budget, heli is the way to go. You get more laps and ride more vertical, but it comes at a price. Using a heli is the only way to reach some of the big mountains. One night we got a late bump up to Diamond, one of the crown jewels of the Chugach. This is the tallest peak in any direction, begging us to take in the view for a few nervous minutes.
Looking back up at the run we just did - Gun Barrels on Diamond. These runs are 3000' chutes that spill out onto the glacier after a small bergstrom. Then another 3000' run to the bottom. This is why we come up here and this time the Chugach delivered, big time. After, the crew hung out for a few cold Alaskan Ambers.

What do cooking and snowboarding for a Winter X Games medal have in common? That would be a show called Dinner Impossible courtesy of the Food Network. The producers sent their crew and their chef Robert, who only hears of his cooking mission minutes before he is whisked away to the grocery store for all his ingredients, to the hills of Buttermilk Mountain in beautiful Aspen, Colo. where Winter X Games 13 is underway. Chef Robert was given his mission from Olympic Snowboarder and local Aspenite, Gretchen Bleiler, who even jumped in with part of the menu asking for some extreme cookies. With the help of several sous chefs you may recognize: BMX Champion Kevin Robinson - who gave the chef his own mission of keeping chicken or anything close to that away from him because he's allergic to poultry; and ESPN's very own Dana Jacobson - who apparently ate something so good and nutritious off the menu that gave her great energy and poise as she hosted ESPN's X Center that night. What was Chef Robert's mission? What was in that entree that made Shaun White win Gold? Or how much sugar was in the extreme dessert that made Levi Lavallee attempt a double backflip on a snowmobile?

Even cooler than Food Network showing up to the Winter X Games, is their season premiere kicks off tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 8th, and it will begin with this Winter X segment at 10 p.m. ET.

"SNO!zone British Halfpipe Championships

Day three at the BRITS saw the highly anticipated SNO!zone British Halfpipe Championships. The crowds welcomed the sunshine, but this made for quite challenging snow conditions for the riders. However, that didn’t stop World-class halfpipe runs being thrown down and World Cup Halfpipe Team members Lesley McKenna and Ben Kilner taking the top spots with faultless, technical runs.

The 12 man final was always going to be a tight competition with Team GB members Sam Cullum, Dom Harington, Ben Kilner, Dan Wakeham and James Foster all throwing down impressive technical runs to battle it out for the top three podium spots. It was 2010 Olympic hopeful, Ben Kilner, who was successful in taking the 2009 British Halfpipe title. In the two run, best-run counts final, Ben’s stylish and high amplitude second run impressed the judges and scored him the top spot. Ben’s run included a massive inverted 540, which was easily the highest air of the day, followed by a crippler and textbook backside 720. Dom Harington picked up his second medal of the week, securing second place with a smooth and technical run consisting of a huge frontside 540, backside 540, haakon flip and finishing off with a stylish switch rodeo. Riding well all day, Dan Wakeham had a technical run consisting of a massive mctwist, haakon flip, big inverted 7, massive air to fakie, but after falling on his final hit, he rode away with the bronze.

“I’m totally stoked at winning. I really enjoyed the competition, despite the conditions of the snow. I really like competing at the BRITS after a busy season of comps, it’s the most fun and enjoyable to ride at, so it’s great to win here this year.” – Ben Kilner said of his win.

SEIGNOSSE, France (Wednesday, September 23, 2009) – Round 1 and the opening four heats of Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro France got underway today with the world's best surfers detonating in punchy three-to-four foot (1.5 metre) peaks at Les Bourdaines beachbreak.

Event No. 7 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour, the Quiksilver Pro France was treated to some fantastic surfing throughout the opening day of the waiting period, with the world's best surfers letting loose in the playful beachbreaks while the event wildcards stamped their authority as real contenders amongst the ASP Top 45.

Dane Reynolds (USA), 23, current ASP World No. 11, is coming hot off the heals of his best results on the ASP Dream Tour, a 3rd in South Africa and a 2nd in Southern California, and continued to push the limits of high-performance surfing today at the Quiksilver Pro France.

Opening with a blistering 8.83 out of a possible 10 with some rapid-fire forehand surfing, Reynolds then fell behind fellow Venturan Nathaniel Curran (USA), 24, who posted an impressive heat total of a total 15.40 out of a possible 20. Needing a score in the dying minutes, Reynolds detonated another roping righthander for grab and 8.50 and the advancement to Round 3.

"I knew that wave was going to offer up a score for me and all I had to do was surf it as best I can," Reynolds said. "It had a good wall on it and I was able to do a few turns. It's too bad for Nathaniel (Curran) as he was surfing really, really well, but I'm sure he'll do well in his Round 2 heat."

Joel Parkinson (AUS), 28, current ASP World No. 1, suffered his first setback in an otherwise near-flawless season last event, finishing 17th in Southern California. While the media speculated that a quasi-serious ankle injury was the culprit in Parkinson's poor showing, the Australian showed no signs of injury today.

"Everyone has been talking about it (ankle injury) but I haven't really noticed it," Parkinson said. "It feels fine today and I feel like I have full movement. Obviously, I didn't have the result I wanted at the last event, but everyone has a bad one and hopefully I've gotten mine out of the way already."

With extreme tide fluctuations wreaking havoc upon the consistency of the Les Bourdaines lineup, Parkinson effortless posted excellent scores with both backhand and forehand ripping.

"It's pretty tricky out there but there are definitely some pretty fun ones coming through," Parkinson said. "It can be tricky with the tide changes. The waves looked really fun this morning, but as the tide's dropped, some of the good ones are breaking inside and the others are breaking out the back. Looking forward to a few days off now and excited to get back out there."

Julian Wilson (AUS), 20, led the wildcard charge at today's Quiksilver Pro France, besting veteran compatriots Bede Durbdige (AUS), 26, and Dean Morrison (AUS), 28, inRound 1 of competition.

"I've done a few of these events as a wildcard before and the approach of ‘just go for broke' has kind of gone out the window now. I look at these heats as opportunities to establish myself and good training against these guys. I hope to be up at this level of competition in one to two years and this is great experience."

Joining Wilsonin posting Round 1 heat wins today were fellow wildcards Joan Duru (FRA), 20, and Patrick Beven (FRA), 31.

The afternoon saw some electric surfing as Round 2 moved through the opening four heats, and some big names avoided elimination at the Quiksilver Pro France.

Following the close Round 2 victory of former ASP World Champion (2007) and current ASP World No. 2, Mick Fanning (AUS), 28, another former ASP World Champion in C.J. Hobgood (USA), 30, survived one of the most exciting heats of the year.

The current ASP World No. 3, who had all nine of his surfboards stolen his first night in France, was comboed by wildcard Alain Riou (PYF), 26, before snapping another surfboard in the powerful Les Bourdaines shorebreak. Grabbing a spare board he had never surfed before, Hobgood returned to the lineup where he proceeded to tube-ride his way out of the combination situation and to a Round 2 victory.

"We all have a breaking point and a lot of things went through my mind and I was just wondering how much worse it could get," Hobgood said. "I was comboed, my board was broken and I know my back-up one is not even that good. If the ocean didn't turn on I would have had a nervous breakdown (Laughs). But whatever, I am happy to get through that heat."

Upsets continued through the final heat of the day with journeyman campaigner Phillip MacDonald (AUS), 30, taking down current ASP World No. 3 Adriano de Souza (BRA), 22, inRound 2 of the Quiksilver Pro France. The powerful Australian man-handled the running lefthanders on his backhand, posting an impressive 16.90 out of a possible 20.

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7:30am to assess conditions for a possible 8am start.

Alain Riou wins the Trials! - Quiksilver

In soaring summer temperatures this Sunday afternoon, local riders from the Quiksilver and DC family Joan Duru and Marc Lacomare turned up the heat on their competitors to put in scorching performances and claim respective victories in the Rip Curl Pro Junior 3-star and the WQS 6-star Sooruz Lacanau Pro.

The first final to take advantage of the spectacular 4-5-foot, offshore waves hitting the Landes coast was the Rip Curl Pro Junior held at Seignosse Le Penon, a local haunt of 18 year-old Marc Lacomare. Marc, from Hossegor, trains tirelessly at the beach break but his rival in the final, John John Florence from Hawaii is widely regarded as one of the best surfers of his generation. The route to the podium would not be an easy one.

In the quarter-finals of the event, also held this morning, John John Florence neatly illustrated this point when he scored an incredible perfect 10, which he backed up with an almost-perfect 9.87 to take him into the semi-final. Marc Lacomare won his semi-final against Basque surfer Jatyr Berasaluce by a nail-biting 0.24 but he was, it seems, saving his best performance for the final.

A huge, excited crowd of friends, family, supporters and rivals lined the water’s edge at the height of the day’s searing temperatures and as the tide turned, perfect offshore walls pushed over the sandbank. The two surfers from opposite sides of the world paddled out to complete three days of top quality surfing for the most highly rated contest of the ASP Junior Pro Tour.

John John Florence clearly had his wave magnet charged, taking wave after wave to notch up 11 rides in total and a combined score of 9.67. Lacomare, on the other hand, displayed a professional level of patience and selection. Choosing only two waves in total, Lacomare scored an 8-point ride, backed up by a 4.67. Despite the Hawaiian’s best efforts, it was quality and not quantity, laced with invaluable local knowledge that won in the end. Lacomare emerged victorious and the crowd’s cheers reverberated along the beach towards his hometown of Hossegor. A stunned and ecstatic Lacomare took to the podium to claim his prize money and an electric guitar for his efforts to end a day that he will never forget.

The very same afternoon, 150 km north on the same Aquitaine coast, Joan Duru took to the water to compete in the final of the prestigious Sooruz Lacanau Pro. In the 6-star event, Duru, just 20 years of age and from Ondres would have qualified to compete in the Pro Junior but instead stepped up against some of the world’s best surfers to take part in the WQS event. Going into the competition, Duru had already proved his level of ability as he ranked tenth on the WQS, forging a path towards the ASP World Tour next year. He then illustrated his dominance in Round 5 of the event when he defeated teammate, close friend and ASP World Tour surfer, Miky Picon to progress to the quarter final against Brian Toth. His heat tactics and knowledge of French beach breaks took him onward to the semi against Matt Wilkinson from Australia and straight into the final.

Perfect 4-foot, offshore conditions greeted the surfers for the final and some of the best waves, according to Logie, that have greeted the surfers on the WQS this entire year. Thousands of spectators gathered on the shoreline to watch the action and they were not disappointed.

Travis Logie had been surfing with impressive power leading up to the final, having defeated Americans Austin Ware and Patrick Gudauskas in the quarter and semi-finals. As an ex-member of the elite Top 45 and a seasoned competitor with more experience of the man-on-man format, it seemed Logie had the edge over his younger rival. Joan Duru, however, had other ideas.

Opening his score account with a 7.33, Duru was bolstered by local support and surfed with panache. Logie, who is attempting to return to the upper echelon of surfing in the Dream Tour, eventually answered with a 7.23 that would count as one of his best wave scores by the time the hooter sounded. Performing huge vertical top turns and impressive manoeuvres, Duru upped the ante by posting a 9-point ride. This, backed up by a 7.47 would seal his victory despite the best efforts of Logie and an 8.07 score. Victorious in front of his home crowd, a jubilant Duru was carried up the beach to claim his $20,000 prize cheque and the all-important points.

Duru commented afterwards, “I am just so happy right now, I wanted to win so bad I am really over the moon and can’t really realise the result yet. I felt quite under pressure throughout the event and until the semi-final I was just very focused and anxious but I managed to get over it for the final and I really let go to surf at my best. Travis never let go of me and he is an impressive competitor so I really played my game and used priority and it finished perfectly.”

Duru’s win is the first for a French surfer in the event for 27 years. This was the 30th anniversary of the Lacanau Pro, which began 10 years before Duru was even born. His stunning result, which catapults him to seventh on the WQS rankings brings his aspirations of joining the world’s 45 best on the ASP World Tour in 2010 ever closer to becoming a reality. The performances of Duru and his friend Marc Lacomare illustrate how far French surfing has come in recent years and its significance on a global scale.

Harry De Roth - NEW TO THE QUIKSILVER TEAM

Quiksilver would like to welcome Harry to the team and congratulate him on his two recent wins the Quiksilver KOTGS held in Newquay in July and last weekend taking out the White stuff under 12's division at Watergate Bay . Harry who is only 11 years old is already showing signs of flying the flag for the next generation of young rippers coming though the ranks of British surfing.

Harry comes form St Ives a little Cornish fishing village on the rugged north coast of England is already following in the foot steps of one of his home boys Jayce Robison. Is set to have a promising career and we look forward in supporting him in the future.

Harry's next trip will be to the Quiksilver pro in September where he will be training with our UK top team riders Nathan Phipps, Toby Donachie, Luke Dillon and UK Team Manager Spencer Hargraves. Also rubbing shoulders with 9 times world champ Kelly Slater.

The Quiksilver Surf Showdown contest will take place on August bank holiday - 29th, 30th August 2009, Fistral Beach, Newquay. This unique event will see 8 of the UK & Ireland's most iconic surf shops compete for the chance to win a trip to the legendary Quiksilver Pro France and a personalised Gibson Guitar, the winning pro-surfers will win £500.

2 staff from each store will be paired with 2 surfers from the UK & Ireland's finest 16 pro's including Quiksilver's Spencer Hargraves, Nathan Phillips, Aaron Reid. SAM BOSWORTH WINS UK'S FIRST EVER XGAMES GOLD! - Quiksilver

Sam Bosworth created UK Vert history on Saturday the 1st of August by winning the UK's first ever XGames gold in the AM Vert . He beat fellow English man Sam Becket in a closely fought final . Sam pulled out all his tricks in his final run, consisting of backside air to frontside air to double kickflip indy, followed by melon 540 to allyoop heel flip indy to air fakie to heel flip gaytwist to kickflip mute finishing off with a mctwist to seal the gold .

Sam exclaimed after winning the gold " This place is insane! I can't even speak . Where I come from it rains every day, so getting used to the heat here was really hard. I didn't think I could win, but I did my best. It feels amazing!"

Quiksilver team rider Jeremy Flores leads the French surfing team to a world title the Open Gold Medal of the ISA world surfing games 2009.

Surfing trhu to the final via the repercharges heats Flores was the form surfer of the event repeatdedly posting the highest heat scores of the entire comptetion . once qualifying into the Grand Final Flores dominated his 3 opponents with a combination score of 17.12 points , the 2 sufers of USA , Ben Bourgerois and Cory Lopez and the Preuvian Gabriel Villaran were left in need of a exceptional wave to over take the Frenchman .

This win for Flores put the French team into a second place on the overall title to team America
Flores Follows on the footsteps of CJ Hobgood (USA) winner of the previous ISA games.

Ramzi Boukhiam crowned King of the Groms 2009 in Zarautz - Quiksilver

Morocco’s Ramzi Boukhiam has won the 2009 edition of the Quiksilver King of the Groms, beating Tom Neushwanger (Fra), Ian Fontaine (Fra) and William Alliotti (Gua). Ramzi and Tom will go on to represent Europe in the International Final of the King of the Groms, set to take place from 23rd September to 4th October, during the Quiksilver Pro France 2009.

In the final, the Team Quiksilver surfer Ramzi Boukhiam outclassed his rivals with a score of 7.90 and 9.33. With a final total of 17.23 points (out of a possible 20), including one wave judged at 9.33 (out of 10), Ramzi produced the best series of the entire competition.

At the end of the day, at the spot in Zarautz (Euskadi) and for the final series of the event, the quality of the waves improved markedly. For the first few minutes of the final, Ramzi had some trouble perfecting his moves. But with iron patience, the one they call “Ramzouille” gradually gained in confidence and performed a string of rollers, floaters and cutbacks with increasing ease and a radical style. With seven minutes to go in the series, he confirmed his victory with a wave scored at 9.33 that unmistakeably marked the pinnacle of these two days of competition. The young Moroccan richly deserved his win, having remained unbeaten over the two days of surfing. “I’ve changed the way I approach my series, and now I’m more chilled, I don’t put myself under so much pressure. I try to have fun, just let go and it works!” explained the King of the Groms 2009.

His rivals did their utmost to outsurf him, but all in vain. This year, Ramzi was just too good. Tom Neushwanger and Ian Fontaine performed very solidly at the start of the series, but didn’t get the waves they needed to try and keep up with the leader.
In the repechage table, Portugal’s Fransisco Alves and France’s Pierre Rollet saw their hopes of making it through to the final of the main leaderboard slip away. Ian Fontaine and Tom Neushwanger were able to make the most of every one of their waves, giving their two pursuers little chance. The patience shown by Pierre Rollet, waiting for the right wave to arrive, was ultimately to no avail.
Following this final, World Top 45 surfer Aritz Aranburu and the King of the Groms riders performed an expression session for the spectators. For 30 dazzling minutes, all the surfers let their imagination run free, thrilling the big crowd gathered on the beach at Zarautz. Afterwards, Tahiti’s Kevin Bourez emerged victorious with an ollie pop.
Crowned by the competition sponsor Aritz Aranburu, Ramzi will have a major card to play in the International Final. The reward is a wildcard to compete in the trials for the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2010 and the Quiksilver Pro France 2010.
This evening from 10pm at the Place Munoa square in Zarautz, there will be a special DJ set with Mahara McKay. Later, at 11pm, France’s Joan Duru and Dimitri Ouvré will join Australian Craig Andreson to light up Zarautz for the Quiksilver Air-Show - a unique night-time surfing spectacle, that will see the riders towed out by jetskis, performing aerial moves.
Then at midnight, Helltrip are set to rock the living daylights of the Place Munoa!

Battling through the treacherous conditions Shaun topped the podium by putting down a solid run to seal the victory in the South Island. This win comes on the heels of a run at the Burton NZ Open that blew the doors off of the previous contests.

Shaun pulled a frontside lein air, backside 900, frontside 720, cab double cork 1080, to a front 1080 in his first run, and a straight air, backside 500, frontside 720, cab double cork 1080, front double cork 1080 on his second run. Shaun is going to be leaving NZ soon, heading back to the states for some late summer surfing, tacos, and relaxation!

So the year has begun! While down in New Zealand training, Shaun jumped into the Burton NZ Open and, well, as the video shows, Shaun came out firing with some new tricks that are setting the bar for the year to come! Shaun spent most of the winter with Red Bull in southwestern Colorado where he dialed in these doubles and riding all year! No doubt it's going to be a great winter with this kind of a start!

Just got back from a development trip to Minneapolis, home of Target! Looking over the new line is always cool. Seeing our drawings come to life is amazing. We are going over the artwork, making sure the colors and artwork is placed right, going over fits, the whole nine. Stuff is looking good, also, saw some weird stuff out in the middle of America.

First night in town and we ran into this dude. He is seriously almost 2 inches long.
